Monday, April 28th, 2008

By Jason Gluckman Nestled in the beautiful Smoky Mountains, Gatlinburgs romantic and beautiful outdoor scenery is perfect both for honeymoons and weddings. Hundreds of couples take their oaths in Gatlinburg each year, both in casual and formal settings. Indeed, the Smoky Mountains are such a popular wedding location that they have been dubbed as the wedding and honeymoon capital of the South. Couples typically choose to get married in either the Great Smoky Mountains National park, in a Gatlinburg wedding chapel, or in their own romantic Gatlinburg cabin. Many Gatlinburg wedding chapels have a traditional church atmosphere. The typical Gatlinburg wedding chapel is a beautiful white building with glass chandeliers, stained glass windows, and even gazebos and garden areas for outstanding photographs. Most chapels can accommodate 50 to 80 guests, with the costs of chapel wedding packages ranging from $300 to over $3,000. Receptions hosted by Gatlinburg wedding chapels can cost an additional $2,000 to $4,000. A private cabin wedding allows for a more customized and casual event. In addition, if guests, food, and photographers are minimized, such weddings are also highly economical. The cost of a minister for such a ceremony can cost as little as $99. Each year many sweethearts enjoy this thrill of a lifetime a private wedding in their own romantic Gatlinburg cabin, complete with a hot tub, fireplace and stunning mountain views. In addition, several nearby attractions such as Dollywood and Ripleys Aquarium make Gatlinburg an ideal place for an extended stay before and after the wedding. Whether the wedding party is just two sweethearts or a larger group of guests, Gatlinburg is an ideal vacation spot that combines romance with the rustic outdoors, as well as many opportunities for shopping, dining, and more. An unforgettable wedding experience awaits you, with wedding staff in Gatlinburg anxious to manage all of the details from the photographer, minister, and lodging to the beauty make-over. Several wedding chapels and wedding service providers exist online to assist you with the entire planning process and the actual event. Recovering From a Career Crisis

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

By Garrett Coan If you have ever experienced any of the following, you have had a career crisis: Losing your job Being fired Burning out Not wanting to do your job for one more day A career crisis can be caused either by someone else (being laid off) or by your own feelings (burning out). Common Causes of Career Crises There are many reasons why people experience career crises. Here are a few: Corporate downsizing Burnout Relocating for your spouses career Being fired Making the wrong career move Corporate politics Not fitting in Why a Career Crisis Is So Devastating A career crisis is almost always devastating because it can impact your life in so many ways. Here are a few examples: 1. Money: Losing your income with no warning can be financially devastating. 2. Status: If your job gives you status or a professional identity, you may feel devastated without it. 3. Surprise: If the job loss happens without warning, you will probably feel shocked. 4. Self-esteem: You may feel embarrassed by what has happened. 5. Feeling alone: You are likely to lose friends and companions when you no longer work in the same place. 6. Feeling out of synch: Your regular routine may be disrupted. 7. Confusion: If the crisis happens because of burnout or for reasons inside yourself, you may feel confused about what to do next. 8. Effect on others: If people around you depend on your income and need you to be predictable, they may react negatively to your crisis. Career Crisis: Who It Hurts the Most A career crisis hurts you because it is devastating to your ego. The hurt tends to be greater when one gets a sense of identity and self-esteem from his or her job title, status, and income. A crisis hurts your family because they must experience the emotional fallout that follows a crisis. Your family may also experience a feeling of lost self-esteem and status, especially if you were fired or laid off. The Flashback Effect A major loss like this sometimes can cause you to reach back into the past and reactivate unfinished business from a major loss, or a crisis from an earlier time. For example, when Sharon was terminated after seven months at her dream job, she became very depressed. While depression is a normal reaction to such a loss, Sharon was reacting to losing her job and the similar feelings she had when she flunked out of a top university 12 years earlier. When she finally saw a therapist after a few weeks of depression following the job loss, she saw that she had never fully resolved her feelings about failing in college. Here are some other points about recovery: 1. The process of recovering from a career crisis will happen on its own schedule. It cant be rushed. 2. Every person responds to a career crisis differently. There is no right way to respond or to deal with it. 3. Depending on the circumstances, processing a career crisis can take years. 4. Build and use a support system. People need other people when they are experiencing such a crisis. A group of people who have experienced similar losses is especially helpful. 5. It is a good idea to find support outside of your family and friends. Even the most supportive may grow tired of hearing about your situation, or you may find yourself censoring your behavior to avoid alienating them. However, you still need help and a place to let your feelings out. How to Help Someone in a Career Crisis Here are a few ideas for being helpful to people going through career crises: 1. People need support when they are having a career crisis, even though they may seem to push you away. 2. Ask how you can help. 3. Dont give advice unless asked. 4. Check in regularly with the crisis victim; let him or her know youre there. 5. Remind the crisis victim of what a good person he or she is, even without the identity and status that the job provided. 6. Sometimes a career crisis sends a person into a serious depression for which help is needed. If you sense danger, urge the crisis victim to seek help. How to Turn a Crisis into a Victory Here are some suggestions for turning a career crisis into a victory: 1. Give yourself time to heal. If recovery is rushed or interrupted, the crisis victim will not fully heal and a victory is not possible. 2. Remind yourself as often as necessary that your pain will end and you will eventually feel happy again. 3. Avoid jumping into something new on the rebound; let yourself experience all the stages of grief. 4. Accept that many people will not understand the depth of your grief. They will not understand why this is so difficult for you, and they will say stupid things. 5. Use the opportunity to stop and consider other options. 6. Explore what meaning your feelings have for you. If we pay attention to them, our feelings can lead us places we would otherwise never visit. 7. Keep a journal of your experiences. Make it your intention to see what there is to be learned from this experience. 8. A loss such as a career crisis can be viewed as both a door-closer and a door-opener. Start thinking about what you are learning and gaining from this experience. 9. Create a ceremony of letting go. Yours will be as unique as your experience. The Career Crisis Recovery Exercise Write out your answers to the following questions. This self-help exercise can help you process your feelings about what has happened to you. 1. Describe what happened when your career crisis happened. 2. Describe the job or career. Where did you work? What was it like? Who did you work with? What do you miss the most? What do you not miss at all? 3. Describe your feelings about the loss of the job or career. 4. What has the impact of this crisis been on your life? What else have you lost because of your career crisis? 5. What barriers stop you from moving on? 6. What are 10 things you can do starting today to continue the recovery process? Responsibility is Key to a Successful Marriage

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

By Ted Segura We have heard of many people who jump into marriage quickly without fully understanding and realizing the seriousness of this way of life. Feeling so much in love, many young couples stop there and say Nothing else matters as long as we are together. Does this sound familiar? The next thing we know, some of them have separated. Why? Didnt they just say as long as were together? From this statement alone, it seemed that both have not been properly informed and counseled what marriage is all about and their roles as husband and wife. When the honeymoon is over, reality sets in. Marriage is not a game or a playhouse. It is the union of husband and wife. Through their love for one another, they have taken the step to live their lives together forming a family. Therefore an important aspect that a couple must take in marriage is responsibility. Marriage means responsibility. We have met wives who are separated and who said that their marriage failed because her husband was irresponsible. We asked them in what way were they irresponsible? One response is that the husband just delegates his responsibilities to his wife. For example, he lets the wife work and take care of the finances while he just stays comfortably at home. Another said that the husband would run away from problems instead of facing them and finding solutions. Another one cannot handle the responsibility of taking care of children. This happens vice versa when the wife too does not live up to her role as a wife and mother. Havent you heard parents say to their children You must be responsible in doing your homework meaning, it is your duty. In a similar way, husbands and wives expect the other to be responsible as a spouse and parent. When this does not happen, problems start to occur between them. We will start to hear the words How irresponsible can you get! You should have done this or that! Each one will start to blame the other. Where there is love, one only thinks of the other therefore takes full responsibility to make his marriage work. Because of love, both husband and wife will then understand their respective roles and help each other concretize it. Marriage means responsibility. Love does not delegate everything to the other but there is reciprocity between the spouses. Love even extends ones responsibility outward. It extends a helping hand. Love makes one accountable to the other. Love not only makes them responsible spouses but even makes them responsible parents. Let responsibility not be a chore but a joy because it is an expression of love. It has that sense of ownership where both spouse now feel, I have a family to take care of. However, one cannot expect the other to be responsible if he or she is not one. He must first be an example to the other. In the same manner towards their children for children watch what their parents do. If couples do not have an entire picture about marriage and their role as married couples, it would be best that they get counseling on this or get proper information. This is to avoid causes that can lead to separation. Responsibility is key to a successful marriage because it is a result of love. Marriage means responsibility. And one can feel the joy of being a fulfilled spouse and parent. Ted and Christine Segura have been involved in the topic of relationships for several years. Write or draw someting special and place it in a frame. find small items that will be appreciated by a sports enthusiast, stamp collectors, a gardening buffs, etc… and make little gift baskets. Your thoughtfullness will be appreciated by the recipients.Otherwise, choose two gifts - one for the men and one for women - and buy them in bulk. Many retailers will give you a price break based on quantity - IF YOU ASK THEM TO.This will help keep your costs down and save you time too.If you shop on-line Email a note to the online vendors asking if they can give you a break for buying X number of the same item. They may not offer it but some may consider doing so when requested. We at A-wedding Day do.S. Be aware that because of the way internet shopping carts are set up, the discount will not show up on your online confirmation. The vendor will have to deduct the discount when charging your credit card and will need to email you the amount actually charged. It should reflect your cost after the price reduction. Q. When is the best time to present our thank you gifts to our parents, grandparents and wedding attendants?A. You may do so at the rehearsal dinner because of the intimate setting with your family and closest friends. Or, you may choose to present each in a private setting where you can express your gratitude to each participant individually. Copyrights 2007 All Rights Reserved Nily Glaser of A-wedding Day. How to Get Rid of Crabgrass

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

By Emma Drosy Crabgrass is an extremely common weed, and many homeowners have trouble getting rid of crab grass. But if you want to know how to get rid of crabgrass the right way, the first step is to maintain an overall healthy lawn. Take care of your lawn, and your lawn will take care of you by not sprouting annoying, hard-to-get-rid-of crabgrass. If you want to know how to get rid of crabgrass, then you already crabgrass is an extremely hard weed to get rid of. Thoroughly wet the soil around the crabgrass first, to help loosen up the dirt and make it easier to pull up crabgrass. When pulling up crabgrass, try to get as much of the root as possible. Crabgrass is very difficult to get rid of, so there is always the chance that you will have to live with some small areas of crabgrass in your lawn. The trick of how to get rid of crabgrass is in preventing crabgrass in the first place. Good lawn care should keep the appearance of crabgrass at a minimum. Dont cut your lawn too close to the ground, but let it remain thick with a few inches growth. Crabgrass likes to grow in very sunny areas where it has room to spread out so be sure to tend quickly to any bald areas in your lawn, and dont over-cut your grass. Good lawn care keeps you from wondering how to get rid of crabgrass in the first place. Crabgrass is something that all homeowners have to deal with at some time or another, and not everyone knows how to get rid of crabgrass. Why Did Jesus Say We Must Enter His Kingdom with Childlike Faith?

Friday, April 11th, 2008

By Carey Kinsolving “Children don’t know about sin, and that’s why they go to heaven. Grownups know about sin, so they get a choice,” says Taylor, 8. Taylor, I concede that your sins are not as sophisticated as those of some adults, but I’m sure your track record isn’t perfect. Have you ever disobeyed your parents? No further questions. “You can learn more stuff as a child. A child is smarter than an adult,” says Hoss, 7. Most children learn at a faster pace, but this doesn’t make them smarter than adults. Hoss, God gave you parents to guide you. They know more than you, and that’s a good thing. “I think it means that if you act like an adult, you think you’re too good. But if you act like a child, you would want to go to heaven,” says Grace, 10. An inflated sense of one’s goodness keeps a lot of people out of God’s kingdom. Jesus told religious leaders, “Tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you” (Matthew 21:31). Jesus turned everything upside down. Those who appeared to be the least likely candidates entered God’s kingdom before those who were sure they would be first in line. What’s going on here? “I think Jesus meant we have to come to him like a child,” says Amanda, 11. “We don’t have to say special words. We need to be like a child and not talk fancy. Then, we can go to heaven.” Fancy words, religious rituals and clerical garb may impress people, but they don’t influence God. He sees the heart. God knows we can deceive ourselves into believing we’re good enough to make the grade for heaven by our good works. Jesus is trying to send us a wake-up call so we won’t substitute religious stuff for the simple, childlike faith needed to enter his kingdom. “I think Jesus meant that you must humble yourself as a child does,” says Ally, 12. “He meant that you must be ‘born again’ and become like a kid with a new start. Or he could have meant that we must be like a child who trusts and loves his parents. We should trust and love God like that.” Ally, you’ve got the picture. In a normal home, children survive by trusting their parents. Small children don’t have the experience to make wise choices. Jesus came to Earth to tell us about a benevolent Father and a kingdom in which righteousness and justice prevail. Jesus declared that he was the only way into that kingdom. “Jesus meant that you will never get into heaven unless you truly believe that he died on the cross to forgive us,” says Grace Marie, 10. Martin Luther said faith that results in being declared righteous before a holy God is like the hand of the beggar reaching out to receive a gift. Before God, we’re all beggars. The Lord Jesus offers us a gift. We must receive his offer by the faith of an empty hand that offers nothing in exchange. Small children don’t have a problem receiving gifts. Every Christmas, we’re reminded of this. This same capacity or humility carries over into the spiritual realm. Some studies have shown that as much as 85 percent of Christians trusted the Lord Jesus as their savior before the age of 14. Think about this: God wants to be your benevolent parent. You must come to the place where you receive his offer of eternal life with the humility of childlike faith. Memorize this truth: “Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it” (Luke 18:17). Ask these questions: Have you entered God’s kingdom with childlike faith? If so, are you walking with God with childlike faith and wonder? The Real Marketing Genius

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

By Shawn Meldrum I spend a lot of my time reading books and listening to tapes about business and marketing. I guess that’s understandable. Many of the authors of these materials are known as experts, gurus or marketing geniuses. However, a few weeks ago I was listening to a discussion about marketing and one of the participants made a point that struck me like a ton of bricks. He said: “The only true marketing genius is the customer”. What a succinct and powerful statement! The truth of the matter is that no matter how much good advice or information or training we get in marketing, the only person’s opinion that really matters is the customers. No matter how good the idea seems to be, if the customer doesn’t respond then nothing else matters. What’s the moral? Simple. You need to constantly stay in tune with your customers interests and desires and give them what they want, how they want it, when they want it. If they don’t respond to a particular offer, you need to do your best to find out why (through follow-up surveys or any other method at your disposal). If they do respond to an offer it’s still a good idea to find out why. It may be for a different reason than you think. We should all certainly continue to study marketing and listen to what the “experts” say, but we need to give just as much (or more) attention to what our customers are saying as well.
